  The Elanthoor Genesis

If we trace the genealogy of the Elanthoor Thazhayil family, we can call Thekkedathu Koshy as our 'Poorvapithavu', meaning forefather. This Poorvapithavu Koshy got the above plot of land without any land tax from the Rajah of Pandalam who had their supporters (or subordinates) known as Thamprans of Oomalloor who were afraid of the Avarna Hindus (non-Brahmins) in and around Elanthoor. This hostile and volatile situation at Elanthoor demanded a strong and reliable bodyguard for the Thampurans of Oomalloor for their whereabouts at Elanthoor. As we have seen earlier, at the request of the Thampurans our Poorvapithavu Koshy was forced to settle down in the above plot of land. According to records, this Koshy became a great instrument in the proclamation of the gospel to the non-christian community around him. This marks the genesis of the Elanthoor Thazhayil Family.

Koshy Vallia Thazhayil had two sons: the eldest was known as Koshy who moved to a new settlement called Mulamoodu and the youngest son Thommy remained at his fathers place. Here start the extended two fold tributaries of the Elanthoor Thazhayil family in the second generation. These brothers were physically strong and were able to control the anti-social elements of the day in and around Elanthoor and thus they were highly respected by the Thampurans of Oomalloor. Mulammoottil Koshy and Vallia Thazhayil Thommy became great mediators to settle the disputes confronted by the contemporary society and they were held in high esteem because of their wise counseling and honest behavior. Both of these forefathers with their families went to the church at Oomalloor for Sunday worship services. Besides, they were overseers of the land owned by the Thampurans of Oomalloor and
thus they enjoyed special privileges granted by the Rajah of Pandalam.
