General characteristics of the Thazhayil Family: |
|
| |
| First, this family faced many hardships and persecutions like the early Christian families and thus one can say they were going through many types of critical movements in its survival. For example, this family faced persecution at Palayoor. In addition to that, they confronted severe threat to their existence at Nilakkal. On the whole, they faced these challenges boldly and maintained their own identity wherever they had gone. This is an eye-opener for the present generation to follow. |
| Second, as we have seen earlier, they became vehicles of their faith in their earthly pilgrimage. They were labeled 'Church Builders' and the protectors of the faith of their fathers. |
| Third, these family members were a mobile group and this trend has been continuing since then. Their main occupation was agriculture and livestock although the trend had changed due to missionary and educational influences because of the advent of European powers. At present the members of this family constitute a global network and there is a transition from rural economy to urban economy which is directed by modem technological developments. |
| Fourth, the members of the Thazhayil family belong to various denominations of the Kerala society and replantation of this denominational structure continued through the journey of their pilgrimage to various villages, towns and cities in and outside Kerala. |
In a nutshell, they maintain connections with various Christian fellowships with regard to how their denominational structure is concerned.
